National Population Commission, (NPC), has commenced area demarcation exercise across the 17 local government areas of Yobe State.
Mai Aliyu Muhammad, the NPC’s Federal Commissioner, who monitored and supervised the exercise in Tarmuwa local government area, noted that the ongoing demarcation exercise was extremely important as it would determine what people stand to gain in terms of social amenities from the government.
He added that the exercise did not only determine population but also the quality of the population – what people needed and what were the various requirements of the various segments of the society.
“Some of the essence of the demarcation exercise is to find out how many people are educated and how many are not, what are the health services that are available to the various segments of the society.
What are the employment opportunities available in the country so that the youths could be employed”, he said.
Muhammad said, currently the exercise is being carried out in Tarmuwa and Fune local governments.
“We have already demarcated Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, Machina, Yusufari and Karasuwa.
“What remains now is Geidam, Yunusari, Bursary, Jakusko, Nangere, Fika, finally Gujba and Gulani local government area”, he added.
The Federal Commissioner said the exercise is expected to be concluded by August this year.
