A Nigerian lady, Mercy Musa Swanta, has narrated how bandits spared the life of her 103-year-old uncle, Bitrus Akut, during an attack on their community in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State in 2023.
Mercy, who disclosed this in a Facebook post on Sunday, February 11, 2024, said her uncle, who is the oldest man in their community, passed away on February 3 and was buried on Saturday, February 10.
According to her, the bandits argued among themselves, with one saying that they should kill him while another said the old man should be spared as he wouldn’t live for long.
“Reflecting on the incredible life of my uncle who passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024. In a harrowing encounter with bandits in 2023, when our village (Warkan) in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State was attacked by bandits, he would have been killed.
“It was told that a debate ensued amongst them, one said let’s kill the old man and stop wasting time while another said let’s leave him as he would soon die from the look of things. Despite the chaos, he was spared, as if fate had other plans.
“At 103, he was the oldest in the village, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and love. Yesterday, February 10, 2024, we celebrated his life as he was laid to rest. His memory lives on through his 12 children, 45 grandchildren, and many more great-grandchildren. Rest in peace, baba.”
