Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey are married!
The model, 32, and the NFL star, 28, tied the knot in her home state of Rhode Island on Saturday, June 29.
The couple got married in a chapel in Watch Hill, a coastal neighborhood in the town of Westerly, because McCaffrey always wanted to get married in a church, Culpo told Vogue. “That was our number one priority,” she added of the location.
Speaking with the magazine ahead of her nuptials, Culpo said that marriage is a “covenant.” “It’s the beginning of the rest of your life,” she said, “and it’s the union and bond of two people forever.”
So, when it came time to select a gown, the former Miss Universe opted for a custom Dolce & Gabbana dress that, in her words, “felt as serious as that commitment.”
The stunning, long-sleeved ball gown featured a crew neck and dropped waist, and was paired with a 16-foot lace veil and minimal makeup — no mascara and no eyebrow gel. “I didn’t want it to exude sex in any way, shape, or form,” she told Vogue of her bridal look.
“I wanted it to feel effortless and as if it’s complimenting me, not overpowering me,” she added. “There’s so much beauty and simplicity.”
Culpo and the San Francisco 49ers running back — who first sparked dating rumors in May 2019 — announced their engagementvia a joint Instagram post in April 2023. They shared photos from the romantic proposal, which took place during a Utah getaway, including the moment when McCaffrey got down on one knee. Another picture offered a glimpse of Culpo’s ring, featuring a large oval diamond and epaulette side stones.
“We tried to keep this quiet for as long as possible, but apparently word travels fast,” Culpo wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. “I’m marrying my best friend, I love you so much, fiancé.”
Just weeks after McCaffrey popped the question, the former Miss Universe told PEOPLE she was “so excited” about the engagement. “It’s been the thrill of a lifetime, honestly,” she said.
She also shared details about her then-fiancé’s surprise proposal during an Amazon Live, telling her fans she had no idea it was coming.
“Christian deserves an Oscar for his performance. He was leading me astray the entire time,” she recalled at the time. “I kept asking him if he was ready to get engaged or if he had any timeline in mind because I was starting to get kind of annoyed … he never let out a peep.”
Of course, she had already turned her thoughts to an important wedding detail: her dress. “I do have an idea in mind, but I have found that you never know until you try the actual dress on … I don’t know, I do have an idea,” she said, adding, “It’s a lot of pressure.”
As for McCaffrey getting a peek of her dress before meeting at the altar, Culpo told PEOPLE in May that she wanted to keep her bridal look a surprise until the big moment.
“I know for sure we’re not going to do a first look, so he won’t see me until I’m walking down the aisle, I think that that’s a little less common these days,” she said.
Back in November 2022, Culpo told Entertainment Tonight that she was willing to break her rule against dating athletes again because she recognized that McCaffrey was special.
“He’s just the best, I feel like he is really everything that I could ever ask for,” she said. “So I never have to worry about anything. I think that was the reason why I didn’t want to date an athlete, no offense, because there is a reputation there.”
She added, “He comes from a great family. We have a lot in common in that respect. I feel like you can really tell who a person is by the people that raise them.”
Throughout each of McCaffrey’s NFL seasons so far, Culpo has fully embraced the WAG life, cheering on her guy at his games and even wearing custom 49ers gear to show her team spirit.
After McCaffrey’s team won the NFC Championship — and secured their spot in the Super Bowl — in January 2024, Culpo posted an Instagram Reel capturing the couple hugging and celebrating the moment after the victory.
“Watching the love of your life live out his dream is the best feeling in the world,” she wrote over the video, adding in the post’s caption: “You deserve it all Christian ❤️. I love you so so much.”
