Men of the Osun state police command on Wednesday, August 25, foiled an attempt by some hoodlums to free arrested murder suspects.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Yemisi Opalola, said at 3.30pm on Wednesday, the Osun Police tactical team were taking some murder suspects to Ilesa correctional center when their vehicle developed a fault around Osunjela river along Osogbo/Ilesa Road.
Opalola said as nearby Mechanics were working on the vehicle, four (4) armed men emerged from Osunjela Road on a Bajaj Motorcycle and attacked the Police team by firing sporadically in a bid to hijack suspects. She said in the process, three murder suspects sustained several degrees of injuries and later died at Asubiaro hospital in Osogbo and were deposited in the same hospital morgue while the hoodlums fled into the bush with bullet wounds.
She added that the police in collaboration with the local security outfits and the youths of the community are combing the bush for possible arrest of the fleeing suspects.
