Toymaker MGA Entertainment is facing a major recall across the United States and Canada after some of their popular Miniverse toys were recalled on June 25.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the “Make It Mini sets contain resins that, when liquid, can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization when inhaled, touched, or ingested by children or adults.”

The CPSC also confirmed that they found traces of acrylates within the resins that exceed safe levels in children’s products. However, the CPSC confirmed that once the resin is cured, they are no longer considered hazardous.

MGA Entertainment – which also owns Bratz Dolls and Little Tikes – reportedly received 26 reports of “skin burns and irritation, and respiratory irritation” in adults and children and “one report that a consumer’s asthma was triggered.”

The CPSC’s recall applies to 21 million sets sold in the U.S. alone and an additional 1 million sets sold in Canada.

The Miniverse toys facing recall include some “Make It Mini Appliances,” and all models and series of “Make It Mini Food” and “Make It Mini Lifestyle.” The CPSC explained that the resins in the Miniverse toys “may imitate food items such as a peanut butter jar, maple syrup, milk containers and more” and “may mimic food items when hardened.”

The recalled toys were sold in store and online  at Target, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Family Dollar and other stores nationwide between October 2022 through June 2024. The individual sphere sets retailed between $7 and $13 while the box sets cost $14 to $52.

The CPSC confirmed that consumers “should immediately stop using any units with unused resins and contact MGA” for either a full refund or replacement product. MGA will provide a prepaid label for consumers to send the unopened package or the unused resin with a photo of the item if it was previously opened.
