Matthew and Jennifer Booth claim their nine-year-old daugter Lydia’s constitutional rights were violated when a principal ordered her to remove her face mask at Simpson Central School in Pinola, Mississippi
A couple is suing their daughter’s school claiming she was forced to remove a “Jesus Loves Me” face mask in a computer class.
Matthew and Jennifer Booth are demanding “nominal damages”, alleging their nine-year-old daughter Lydia was singled out and left deeply upset.
The parents claim Lydia’s constitutional rights were violated when the school’s principal ordered her to take off the Christian-themed covering because it was a violation of a school’s policy that bans masks with religious expressions.
The Booths say Lydia, a third grade student, removed her mask and an assistant teacher at Simpson Central School in Pinola, Mississippi, then gave her a plain mask to wear as a replacement.
A lawsuit was filed on their behalf by an evangelical organisation that has been designated an anti-LGBT+ hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, and has ties to Donald Trump’s latest Supreme Court pick, Amy Coney Barrett.
