The police officer by “pure good fortune” got away with minor leg injuries after the suspected stolen vehicle in Wolverhampton hit and threw him across the bonnet
A police officer was left injured after being struck by a car and thrown across the bonnet.
West Midlands police said the police officer was injured while approaching the suspected stolen car in Wolverhampton at about 9:15pm on Monday night.
Officers spotted a grey Audi RS driving erratically on the Black Country Route and they stopped the vehicle at lights at the junction of Millfields Road and Manor Road.
One of the officers was walking towards the car when it accelerated towards him and sent him over the bonnet.
The car then drove off in the direction of Bilston town centre.
The officer, who Detective Sergeant Louise Stafford said only through “pure good fortune” managed to escape the attack without more serious injuries, suffered minor leg injuries.
The Audi was later found abandoned on Mill Street at about 9:55pm and has been seized for forensic investigations.
The force is calling on anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have seen the Audi being abandoned to get in touch.
Dt Sgt Stafford of Force CID, said: “It is through pure good fortune that this officer was not more seriously injured.
“As an officer approached the car, they were deliberately driven at and he has gone over the bonnet – the Audi then drove away leaving the officer on the ground.
