Donald Trump downplayed racial injustice in America while insisting if anything he “up-played” the threat of coronavirus during a televised town hall with ABC News on Tuesday night.
Not for the first time, he claimed Covid-19 would “disappear”, having suggested some hours earlier that a US vaccine was possible within “weeks” and put his faith in the development of a “herd mentality” [sic].
Challenged on his campaign rhetoric by a black member of the audience, the US president replied that he “hope[d] there’s not a race problem, I can tell you there’s none with me, I have respect for all races”, despite months spent criticising Black Lives Matter protests. Fox News says Trump ‘ambushed’ by audience questions

Another bad moment for Trump came when he claimed the Democrats had pledged to introduce a nationwide face mask mandate at their recent convention but had failed to realise it – despite their not having the power to do so, not being the governing party, and the promise only being made on the condition that their man was in the White House.
Voter tells Trump: ‘Please stop and let me finish my question’
Removed from the friendlier media environs of Fox and Friends (on which he again raved yesterday morning), the president was given a rough ride in Pennsylvania last night.
On the topic of his ongoing efforts to dismantle Obamacare, Trump attempted to derail a question from audience member Ellesia Blaque, a professor at nearby Kurtztown University, but she was having none of it.
