Luke Morgan, 32, flew into a fury when he found long-time friend Richard Williams was in a relationship with his mum, Cardiff Crown Court heard

A raging son smashed up his friend’s house – after discovering he was having sex with his mother.

Luke Morgan, 32, hit long-time friend Richard Williams over the head with a broom, bit him and smashed up the house, a court heard.

He caused £2,600 worth of damage – trashing a television, sound bar, fridge freezer, kitchen table, chairs, sofa bed, two sofas, and patio doors as well as smashing a bedroom window.

Cardiff Crown Court was told Morgan became “incensed” after Mr Williams, 31, began a relationship with his mother, 54.

Prosecutor Byron Broadstock said Mr Williams – who had been friends for 20 years – was assaulted with the broom as well being headbutted and bitten.

Morgan shouted: “Get the f*** off me. My brother is on his way and I’m going to get a knife and stab you.”

The court heard he admitted he “lost control of his emotions”.

Morgan, of Sarn, Bridgend, pleaded guilty to burglary, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage.

Defence barrister Adam Sharp said his behaviour was “totally out of character”.

He said: “The revelation of his mother’s relationship with Mr Williams had caused him to lose control.

“He had previously lived and worked alongside the victim prior to this offence. The defendant was completely incapable of controlling his emotions in reaction to that news.

“He was also in the process of a painful break-up with his common law wife, who he has two children with.”

Judge David Wynn Morgan said due to the unusual circumstances of the case the court would be able to “take a different direction” to what it would normally do.

“There’s no excuse for what you did on that day. There may have been reasons as to why you were aghast with your victim but there’s no good reason for your complete lack of self-control.”

Morgan was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months
