These chains have bounded us long
Long enough, that it’s now a song.
Welcome, to a land of untold misery
Where even the air we breath is a mystery.
A very long time ago, before the intervention of the white men, our forefathers had solutions to their problems:but when the white men came, things began to change.
They came with religion, religion that tore us apart.
They came with education, education enlightened us and exposed the ills of our new leaders.
This new found knowledge broadened our horizons, as we’ve had enough of our superiors.
We wanted to be our own leaders.
Alas!
Freedom!!!
There goes the chant of victory.
The pendulum that holds us firm is gone.
Was it really freedom or powers merely changed hands?
As these chains only tightened
These grips held firmly to our thinking.
We are so bound by these fetters, that it has rendered us incapacitated.
Freedom you say?
Independence day you’ve held in high esteem?
Really?
With so much disdain I look at my beloved country, a farce.
Yes, a farce, a bad joke!
This is Nigeria:
where corruption has a biggest share of the national cake.
Where the most wanted criminals are clothed with big agbada, crowned with pity votes, recognized by their pot bellies gotten from trampling on the rights of the people.
Where all the forces has laid false accusations.
Where the reward for being and doing good is an offense.
Where everything bad is on the increase.
This is Nigeria:always trending for the negatives, listed amongst the poorest countries, never developing.
This is Nigeria, the biggest crime scene in a detective story
