Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) let his desperation show on Fox News Monday, directing viewers to his campaign donation website six times in about 45 seconds.
Sounds like some sort of record, doesn’t it? What is indisputable is the GOP lawmaker’s anxiety in his Senate race against Democratic Rep. Colin Allred. The Lone Star showdown could be critical if Democratswant to maintain control of the upper chamber.
After host Sean Hannity blatantly played Cruz’s hype man, the senator said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was doing his best to unseat him.
“I’m getting pounded every day,” Cruz said. “We had a poll that came out yesterday — showed it is a one-point race. And we’re getting viciously outspent.”
Then came the pitch in which Cruz sounded like an infomercial host trying to sell his last air-fryer.
“I’m so appreciative of your viewers going to Ted Cruz dot org, Ted Cruz dot org, and contributing 25 bucks, 50, 100, maybe somebody giving $500 or $1,000, but go to Ted Cruz dot org because when you’ve got a $100 million, wild-eyed liberals that wanna buy Texas.
And here’s what Schumer thinks. If he can flip Texas, he wins the Senate, and he wins the country. Texas is the battleground. My opponent Colin Allred is a hard-left Kamala Harris clone. He voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi his first four years in the House. He voted 100% with Joe Biden from 2021 to 2023. And yet, $100 million on the other side is dangerous. So, please come to Ted Cruz dot org, Ted Cruz dot org. I need your help and support at Ted Cruz dot org.”
Y’all got that web address?
Cruz’s concerns are founded. Allred, a former NFL linebacker, outraised him, $30 million to $21 million, in the third quarter. The poll that Cruz mentioned was leaked from an internal GOP survey, although several recent polls showed the two-term incumbent up 3 points or more.
