Who’s Under the Mask?
6:02 PM: No one even came close to guessing The Orca’s real identity!
After the traditional long unmasking ceremony, filled with chanting, The Orca revealed himself to be rocker Mark McGrath!

“Can I just say one thing? Dave Grohl! Bon Jovi? My head is just as big as Orca’s right now!” McGrath said with a big smile.

“I love you guys! Thank you so much,” he added.

So now, we have the Super 8! The Seashell, Robopine, The Russian Dolls, The Yeti, The Black Swan, The Crab, The Chameleon and The Piglet! This is going to be one epic competition in the weeks to come!

And the Singer Going Home Is…
5:58 PM: The Orca! WHAT!?! On any given week, if you make three of the panelists cry, that’s basically a ticket to the next round.

When Nick reveals that The Orca is going home, Ken is dumbfounded and the panel stand up to give him a round of applause and share their love.

It’s Time to Vote!
5:54 PM: It’s that time again, where the audience votes for who they like most, and the contestant with the least amount of votes has to unmask.
Strangely, I have no idea who is going to get the axe this week! Most weeks, it’s been pretty clear who was the weakest, but all the characters absolutely delivered this week, and I think it’s going to be a really tough call!

As usual, we’ll have to wait until after the commercial to find out who’s going home.

The Yeti Has Us In Love
5:53 PM: For the second week in a row, the wildcard sings a New Edition song. The Yeti’s cover of “If It Isn’t Love” is quite a bit more technically skillful than Nick’s cover of “Candy Girl” last week. (Although Nick still slayed his performance!)

The Yeti has a lot of swagger and talent, with a silky voice and some sweet moves — which are all the more impressive considering the bulky costume. If he can move this well in that furry get-up, I imagine he certainly knows how to dance like a pro when he isn’t decked out like a sports mascot.

The dancing, the vocals, the set design and the impressive pyrotechnics come together to create a really memorable debut — and suddenly I’m worried this wildcard Yeti might indeed take a spot in the Final Eight.

“A professional has entered the building!” Nick declares. “As a fellow wildcarder, that’s what I was trying to do last week!”

“It kind of blows my mind,” Ken shares. “Like, you already are the frontrunner now, that’s how good you are. That was outstanding!”

Bonus Clue:

After the panel gives their first impression guesses for The Yeti — by writing them in snowballs and throwing them onto stage — Nick brings out his cannon yet again and blasts a t-shirt over to Robin, who unfolds the light blue shirt to reveal the word “Aphrodite.”

The Yeti clarifies, explaining, “Yeti is all about love, love, love.”

Panelists’ Guesses:

Jenny thinks it could be Ray J.

Nicole suggests it could be Justin Bieber… apparently.

Ken then blows Nicole’s unlikely guess with a totally insane suggestion that it could be SNL alum Taren Killam. Even Nick calls the guess “horrible.”

The Yeti — FIRST CLUES!!
5:48 PM: The Yeti:

  • Says, “As a yeti, I only come out of hiding for a mammoth reason. And here, it’s to be a wild force to be reckoned with.”
  • He’s carrying a bundle of wood in his arms.
  • Says, “Where I come from, too many yetis become monsters. But I had a secret weapon: a village of warrior women who were always there to show me the way.”
  • The Yeti enters a house — designed to look like the Golden Girls set — and is greeted by some older ladies.
  • Says, “Having them as motivators and teachers was golden. And they made me the abominable gentleman I am today.”

-Says, “Knowing these warriors had my back, gave me the confidence to go for the mountain top when others wouldn’t even dare.”

  • We see a red paper heart.
  • Says, “Yetis are usually chased from the village, but I was raised by it. Being here is a thank you to them.”

The Final Wildcard!
5:47 PM: The last wildcard character of the season is, indeed, a Yeti! The furry monster gets pulled out onto the stage in a cage and jumps out with some youthful energy.
Also, The Yeti’s costume might honestly, be one of the coolest costumes of the season, if not of the whole show! It’s legitimately rad.

The Orca ‘Rose’ To The Occasion
5:41 PM: This week’s performance is far cry from The Orca’s wild and high-octane debut — although it only makes sense that he’s coming out with a slower, more down beat classic, considering how emotional his clue package was.

Coming out from the wings, The Orca is showing his range with a performance of Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” and it’s clear he’s got a lot of experience with performing. He knows how to hit every beat, how to play to an audience and how to tell a story with his intonation alone.

Nicole and Ken are brought to the edge of tears by the performance, and Robin gets choked up talking about The Orca’s powerful clue package.

“I lost my fathers a few years ago,” Robin shares, referring to his dad Alan Thicke, who died in December 2016 at the age of 69. “He was my hero, my idol, so I totally connect with your story and I hear what you’re trying to say with that song.”

The Orca appears to be moved to tears by the feedback, and Robin says it was a “really heartfelt and beautiful performance.”

“You know, Robin, I just really appreciate your words,” The Orca shared. “So, to choose this song, as a celebration of my dad — I’m a dad of 10-year-old twins — the last thing I ever thought was that I’d be crying inside an Orca costume. This was for my pops. I miss him.”

Bonus Clue:

As Nick says, the Orca gave up a few clues voluntarily, but he still decides to shoot out a cannon clue. This time, however, the shirt goes flying so far it sails over the back of the set. Nicole grabs it and shows the shirt simply reads “Purrrr.”

“You know I’ve got a heart, but I also like to Purrr-ty,” The Orca says, pronouncing it like “party” but with more purring. “So there’s three clues in that there shirt.”
