Tia Mowry is speaking out after a clip of her discussing her relationship with her twin sister, fellow actor Tamera Mowry-Housley, sparked a lot of chatter on social media last weekend.
In an Us Weekly article published online Tuesday, the “Family Reunion” actor suggested that her prior comments about wishing she was “still close” to her sister were “taken out of context.”
Mowry had addressed the state of her relationship with her twin in a “first look” clipof her new reality show, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” which is set to premiere on We TV next week.
In the video, Mowry was discussing the challenges she’s faced going through a divorce, such as “being alone,” when she pointed to the status of her connection with Mowry-Housley.
“It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could, you know, pick up the phone and call her,” she said. “But that’s just not where we are right now.”
Mowry told Us Weekly that her remarks were meant to reflect the common changes that happen in family dynamics when some members start their own families.
“I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them,” she said. “We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives.”
The “Game” actor also pointed out that she and her twin sister don’t live close to one another, Us Weekly reported.
“In these transitions in life, sometimes you just want a hug and you just want someone to be as accessible as they used to be, and that is not the case,” Mowry said.
“I love my sister very much. She loves me very much,” she added. “We have a closeness and a beautiful connection. But that’s what that was all about. It’s just how life unfolds, and it happens with many families.”
Mowry told Us Weekly that the online frenzy surrounding her comments about her sister was “not surprising,” since being a veteran in the acting industry has taught her that “things are always taken out of context and it is what it is.”
