England reported 10,383 new cases, Scotland 956, Wales 467 and Northern Ireland 1,066 as Boris Johnson is to make an announcement about a three-tier lockdown system

The number of new coronavirus cases in the UK has risen by 12,872 in 24 hours.

Today, England reported 10,383 new cases, Scotland 956, Wales 467 and Northern Ireland 1,066, taking the total number of infections since the pandemic began to 603,716.

The death toll also rose by 65, taking the tragic total to 42,825.

On previous Sundays the death toll rose by 33 last week, 17 on September 27, on September 20 and five on September 13.

The deaths are slightly down from yesterday’s 81. The highest increase on a Sunday was 710 on April 12, when Britain was in the deadliest days of its outbreak.

Death tolls announced on Sundays tend to be lower than midweek due to a lag in reporting weekend fatalities.
