The Benue State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the brutal murder of Eunice Aghanya, wife of former retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ibezimako Aghanya.

LIB reported that the businesswoman was hacked to death by unknown assailants at her residence, behind Kismet Hotel, off David Mark Bye-pass, on Friday, March 12.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the latest development in a statement on Sunday, March 14, said the suspect is being questioned by police officials.

Anene said the Commissioner of Police, Audu Madaki ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing by the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, adding that her body had been deposited at Bishop Murray Hospital Morgue, Makurdi.

“Police detectives who received the report that she was missing swiftly moved to her house where she resides alone behind her bakery. Her car was seen parked in front of her gate and her fence broken into but her doors were locked,” Anene stated.

“Her lifeless body was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the head. One of the suspects is currently in custody and we are making all efforts to ensure that the others are apprehended and made to face the law,” she added.

Speaking to The Nation, the former Benue State Commissioner of Police said that his wife was killed by thieves because she recognized them.

“My daughter called her; the phone rang but she did not pick so I joked with my daughter, saying, “Don’t mind Mummy, it is because she promised and failed to give you what she promised. That’s why she is not picking the call,” he narrated.

“I again called but she did not pick so I suspected something was wrong. I suspected kidnappers so I sent a text message to her phone, saying, If you are kidnapped tell them to call me I’m ready to pay ransom, I will not report to police.”
