Top shopping retailer, Walmart has apologized after an email containing a racial slur was sent to customers.

In an auto-generated email that usually contains a subject line saying “Welcome to Walmart” the company sent this text instead, “Welcome to Walmart, N****” to an undisclosed amount of customers.

Many of those who received the email voiced their anger on social media causing it to trend on Twitter.

“What’s the best way to contact you guys for a very inappropriate email my daughter received in their inbox from you?” said one user on Twitter.

Walmart has now responded.

“We discovered that an external bad actor created false Walmart accounts with obvious intent to offend out customers,” Walmart said in a statement.

“We were shocked and appealed to see these offensive and unacceptable emails. We’re looking into our sign-up process to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. We’re also looking into all available means to hold those responsible accountable.”

The company also said that any falsely created accounts that were used to send the racial slur have been shut down.
