Why Peanut Butter Is Horrible For You & Your Kids
=================================
Growing up, many of the kids in school would bring peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to school for lunch. But my mom wouldn’t make it for me because she said, “it’s a lot of fat and sugar”.
But when I’d go to a friend’s house, I’d eat them and loved how they tasted.
Soft White Wonder Bread
Chunky peanut butter
Strawberry Jam
Yum!
Ironically, the other day I saw my friend’s mom make a similar sandwich for her son and daughter and in my head I thought, “wow, that stuff is super toxic”… and I heard my mom’s voice in my head … “and it’s full of fat and sugar”.
Of course, I didn’t say anything.
It’s not like anyone listens to me anyway. Besides, they’re not my kids and she didn’t ask for my advice.
From a nutritional standpoint, a 100 g portion (6 tablespoons) of peanut butter is
Carbohydrate: 20 grams of carbs (13% of calories), 6 of which are fiber.
Protein: 25 grams of protein (15% of calories), which is quite a lot compared to most other plant foods. But it’s incomplete protein and LOW in essential amino acids.
Fat: 50 grams of fat, totaling about 72% of calories.
So, it’s very high in fat and dense in calories. This 100 gram portion, which is 6 small tablespoons, is about 600 calories!
Add in the bread and jam and it’s a very fast way to gain weight and get fat.
But, even if you wanted to just enjoy it by itself, with celery or whatever, there are 5 big negatives with it and why I suggest you should avoid eating peanut butter or even peanuts in general.
So, let’s get started with today’s topic … why peanut butter is horrible for you and your kids.
High In Trans Fats & Added Sugars
Most commercial brands of peanut butter are full of artificial trans fats and added sugars. Both of which are toxic to your health and can cause issues with your
Heart
Brain
Colon
Nervous system / Energy levels
Blood Sugar
Blood Pressure
Weight Gain
Inflammation and pain
The list goes on and on… Not to mention, the mixture of fat and sugar is very addictive!
Highly Allergic
High In Lectins
Contains Phytic Acid
Contains Aflatoxins
Aflatoxins are also found in peanuts.7 Aflatoxins are a group of toxic compounds that are made by the molds in certain foods — peanuts being a primary source. This also causes YEAST problems and candida – which many people deal with, especially women. Diets high in aflatoxins have been linked to liver cancer and impaired child growth.
What’s The Alternative To Peanut Butter?
So, you might want to know if there’s a safe alternative to peanut butter? Or what if you eat, “all natural” organic peanut butter? That contains no added sugars or fats?
Well, a lot of the problems I just mentioned are linked to peanuts and peanut butter is just much worse.
