A woman has been left worried about the future of her relationship with a man she’s been with for 17 years after discovering that he’s been speaking to another woman.

On March 3, the mother-of-two shared her concerns on the UK-based parenting forum Mumsnet, explaining that there had been “many ups and downs” throughout their relationship before she discovered her partner was messaging another woman.

She said he becomes “quite vague and angry” when she tries to discuss the situation with him and claims his connection with the other woman is “just friendship.”

“He says he loves me and wants us to work on things, but he feels like we’re flat mates and it’s convenient being together, which I find confusing,” the woman wrote on Mumsnet.

“He says nothing ever changes, yet he doesn’t know what he wants to change,” she continued. “There was a time where I was convinced he’d never hurt me, but now I’m not so sure. I have loved him for so long and always thought we would be together forever as corny as that sounds.

“I gave him my heart, which I don’t do easily,” the woman added.

“He is my everything and I suppose I just want to be his everything but am I kidding myself to think I’ll ever be that. I don’t know how to walk away when I love him and want to be with him,” she concluded.

Commenters were empathetic with the situation as they encouraged the woman to focus on doing what’s best for her and their children.

Several claimed that her partner was displaying red flags that he wasn’t as invested as she was in the relationship.

“He should be putting his effort into you, not another woman, if he really wants to make it work,” one person wrote.

“I’m really sorry op,” another said. “You are worth more than ‘flatmates’ and being ‘convenient’. This man does not love you or treat you as you deserve.”

“Take a breath, have a think, and decide what’s best for you and your kids going forward because this guy is either cheating, or going to,” the commenter added.
