Packs of British Lion eggs sold at Asda, Aldi and Sainsbury’s carry a risk of salmonella contamination – potentially leading to fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps – here are the affected batches and what you can do to stay safe

Shoppers have been warned that some of the eggs on sale recently at Asda, Aldi and Sainsbury’s could be contaminated with salmonella.

Shoppers have been urged to check the best before dates on theirs now, to make sure they’re not at risk.

The Food Standard Agency warned: “A very small number of the above eggs may be contaminated with salmonella, due to it being found in the environment. The eggshell surface might also be contaminated.

There was also advice to anyone who thinks they might have bought one of the affected packs.

“As a precaution, consumers are advised to thoroughly cook the eggs listed in the table above, this means the egg yolks and whites should not be eaten runny. This will eliminate salmonella and avoid risk of illness,” the FSA said.
