James Nwoye Adichie, father of renowned writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, will be laid to rest in Abba, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State on Friday, 9th October, 2020, after a requiem mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Abba.

Recall that Prof. Adichie, who was the first Nigerian Professor of Statistics, died on June 10, 2020 at the age of 88 after a brief illness.

Announcing the burial in a statement on behalf of the family, Chuks Adichie, said that on Thursday, 8th October, by 6 O’clock in the evening, there will be a vigil mass at Professor Adichie’s compound, Umueri, Ezi-Abba village, Abba.

The statement added that other funeral rites will be observed while observing COVID-19 protocols.

Professor Adichie received his PhD in statistics from the University of California-Berkeley, and went on to become Nigeria’s first professor of statistics in 1976, with his dedicated life’s work done at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he was named professor emeritus in 2016.

Upon his retirement, he lived in his hometown, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, where he held the prestigious traditional title of “Odelu ora” Abba.
