Which? has performed lab tests to understand which face masks are the most effective at protecting you from coronavirus, as well as which are the most breathable and comfortable to wear

While face mask were once rare sightings, they’re now compulsory in several settings across the UK.

Now, Which? has performed lab tests to understand which face masks are the most effective at protecting you from coronavirus, as well as which are the most breathable and comfortable to wear.

Which? tested 15 reusable fabric face masks, including pleated, moulded, stretch and multi-layer coverings.

Anna Studman, a senior researcher at Which?, said: “Our first independent lab test of reusable face coverings has revealed that some cloth masks are highly effective at blocking particles, but that basic single-layer masks may not be up to the job.”

To measure how effective the masks were at blocking particles you exhale, Which? used an aerosol generator to shoot bacterial particles at sections of the mask.
