Former Major League Baseball pitcher Charles Haeger died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he allegedly fatally shot his ex-girlfriend Danielle Breed in her bedroom in Phoenix, Arizona

A former pro baseball player was found dead at the Grand Canyon after he allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend and went on the run.

Charles Haeger’s body was found on Saturday after he shot himself on a trail along the South Rim of the canyon in northern Arizona.

A manhunt had been launched for the 37-year-old after his former girlfriend, Danielle Breed, was shot dead at her home in Scottsdale, a Phoenix suburb, a day earlier.

Police said the 34-year-old woman’s housemate returned home on Friday afternoon, heard gunshots coming from her bedroom, and then saw Haeger emerge with a gun in his hand.

The housemate told police Haeger pointed the gun at him, but he managed to escape out the back of the house and call for help as the suspect fled.
