A furloughed British Airways worker was discovered dead by his pregnant wife after he rolled off his sofa and died of alcohol poisoning, an inquest heard.

Dharmindera Kalyan, known as Darcy, had been furloughed from his high-ranking job as a customer agent at the start of the lockdown and was offered the chance to restart work four months later on a lower salary.

A coroner heard the wage cut offer caused him further distress and he died a few days later after a heavy night of drinking on July 16.

His pregnant wife, Ella Kalyan, discovered him on the living room floor of their home in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

He had rolled off the sofa where he had been sleeping off a hangover.
