There was an outpouring of love and sadness when Gogglebox legend Leon Bernicoff died – and there was further tragedy this year when June sadly passed away

When Gogglebox first started back in 2013, few could have imagined that a couple watching the TV could have found a place in our hearts.

While the show is mostly about laughs, there have also been some emotional, heartwarming and immensely sad times.

With their adorable sense of humour, warmth and easy banter, June and Leon Bernicoff soon became national treasures.

Gogglebox producers met Leon on at bridge club while looking for people to take part in the new show – and the Liverpudlian jumped at the chance.

June didn’t think they would be kept on the show, but the couple helped pull in millions of viewers every week.

In December 2017, tragedy struck when Leon sadly passed away, just months after battling through illness to make sure he appeared for their fans in the Christmas special.
