Tracy Shenton, 48, from Stoke-on-Trent, was stunned when she was told her daughter Emily, 12, could not be seen by NHS emergency doctors

Hospital staff refused to treat a 12-year-old girl because her mum works as a front-line coronavirus nurse.

Tracy Shenton, 48, was stunned when she took her daughter Emily, 12, to a pre-booked hospital appointment and the pair were told to stay in the car.

The senior staff nurse, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, had booked the emergency appointment at Bradwell Hospital with her GP via telephone.

But when they arrived, she was told Emily could not be seen because her mum had been in contact with patients who tested positive for coronavirus.

Tracy, who works on the critical care wards at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, explained she had no symptoms and wore full PPE but staff still refused to see Emily.
