How Much Vitamin D Should I Take?
===============================
If you’ve watched my previous videos, you know how incredible I think Vitamin D is. In fact, it’s not even a vitamin and technically, it’s a hormone and more specifically, a STEROID hormone.
And yes, THIS is why it’s so powerful and so essential for your health, fitness and longevity.
So the next question is, “great, how much vitamin D should I take?”
Unfortunately, I can’t give you a specific dose and I’ll tell you why in a minute, but at the end I do have an excellent solution that my family and I take and I’ve listed the information below in the description area.
Before you can decide how much to take, you need to know what your levels are.
The best and more accurate way is to do a blood test and measure the 25-hydroxy vitamin D test. Then you’ll know where your levels are — if you’re deficient, low, sub-optimal, optimal and so forth.
As I’ve stated in my previous videos, I believe the ideal range for optimal health should be between 50-75 ng/mL. I think 35-40 is the lowest it should be.
The problem is that you can’t just take a specific dosage of Vitamin D and hope you’ll get to this optimal level.
This is because there are so many factors that control absorption and conversions.
Remember, Vitamin D is a hormone and because of that, just like other hormones, we all react differently.
Lots of factors affect it … like other hormones, age, sex, bodyfat levels, skin color, cholesterol levels, etc., etc. and of course, GENETICS!
For example, my mom, even though she’s in her mid 80’s and gets no sunlight, gets much better absorption.
For her, 5000 units (125 mcg) of Vitamin D3, works better and shows higher levels in a blood test – around 65-70 ng/ML
Sadly, I have to take DOUBLE the dose at 10,000 units and my levels barely get past 50 ng/ML
I have ZERO idea why, other than that’s just her genetics.
I even get some daily sunlight that my mom doesn’t.
This is why taking blood tests is so important.
Another major problem is the delivery mechanism.
Most Vitamin D is in oil-based gel caplets. It’s made from bodily fluids secreted by sheep’s glands and wool (yuck!).
It’s what most companies use and it’s cheap and not nearly as good or as safe as the plant-based, organic, wild-harvested version that’s micro-encapsulated …
Which results in 2x more absorbable, bioavailable & fresher than the cheaper, “oil” based versions that 99% of other companies use.
Additionally, you need to take the correct form of Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) – NOT regular D or D2 (ergocalciferol), which is found in most cheap supplements and multivitamins.
Also, Vitamin D3 works directly with vitamin K2 [more specifically as MK-7 (trans menaquinone-7)] to help optimize both absorbability and safety, so you can maximize the benefits, while reducing any of the negatives.
And Don’t take regular K or K1, or the synthetic K3 – It must be K2, specifically as MK-7 (trans menaquinone-7)]
