Rhian Mannings has used her tragedy to help other families with her tireless fundraising and has now been presented with a Daily Mirror Pride of Britain award by actor Michael Sheen

Courageous Rhian Mannings thought she was filming a documentary on her groundbreaking bereavement charity – but instead she was surprised with a Pride of Britain Award from screen legend Michael Sheen.

The Hollywood actor played a clumsy waiter reminiscent of Fawlty Towers’ Manuel as he served up Rhian’s Special Recognition award during brunch in a country hotel.

And amid the laughter there were inevitable tears as Rhian acknowledged the ‘bitter sweet’ moment.

It came in recognition of her work for 2 Wish Upon A Star, set up by Rhian in the wake of a double tragedy that saw her lose both baby son George and husband Paul within the space of a week.

Now, the charity works with health boards and police forces, providing vital support to families rocked by the traumatic death of a child or young adult.
