Juventus defender, Matthijs de Ligt has tested positive for coronavirus, the Italian club have confirmed.

The Dutch international played the full 90 minutes of Juventus’ 3-1 win at leaders AC Milan on Wednesday January 6, but has now been placed into isolation. 

“Juventus Football Club announces that, during the checks provided for by the protocol in force, Matthijs De Ligt has emerged positive with Covid-19,” read a statement on the club’s website.

“The player has already been placed in solitary confinement.”

He becomes the third player from the Serie A champions to test positive for Coronavirus after Brazilian defender Alex Sandro and Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado who both returned a positive result on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
