Eden Hazard started for Real Madrid on Sunday for the first time since February as his team restarted their La Liga title challenge at home to Eibar.

Hazard has not played in four months after undergoing surgery on his ankle in March and has endured a miserable opening season in Spain, making only 15 appearances and scoring one goal.

The Belgian injured his thigh the day before Madrid’s first match of the campaign and then suffered his first fracture in his right foot in November.

Hazard returned in February but only made two appearances before having to go off against Levante with another foot problem.

But the three-month suspension due to the coronavirus crisis has allowed Hazard to recover his fitness, with the 29-year-old expected to play a key role in the run-in.

Madrid have 11 games left to play and will reduce the gap to two points behind Barcelona if they beat Eibar, who are 16th
