The reigning Formula 1 world champion claimed his 92nd Grand Prix success in Portugal to take him ahead of the German legend’s record, which had stood for 14 years

Lewis Hamilton made history with victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix by claiming his 92nd win to move above Michael Schumacher in the all-time list of Formula 1 race victories.

Reigning world champion Hamilton – who qualified in pole position – recovered from a poor start to the race to regain the lead and go on to break the 14-year-old record.

Formula 1 legend Schumacher overhauled Alain Prost for race wins at the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix, when he landed his 52nd victory.

In the following five years, he added 39 more, taking him well clear of every other driver in history before leaving F1 with 91 successes under his belt.
