A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Odigbo has sentenced a 24-year-old man, Effiong Samuel, to one-year imprisonment, for stealing mobile phone valued at N54,000.

Effiong was convicted and jailed after he pleaded guilty to a count of stealing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, James Usifo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 23, 2023 at about 10am at Asejire village via Otu Costain in Ore.

Usifo said the defendant stole an Android POP 6 Phone valued at N54,000, property of one Tobi Omosehin.

The offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Usifo, while admitting the defendant’s statement of guilt, said the case needed not to be proved and urged the court to convict the defendant accordingly

Chief Magistrate O. Ogunfuyi sentenced the defendant to one year imprisonment with no option of fine.
