An update to the rules means that even if you only spent a day working from home in the entire conornavirus crisis, you can still claim the full £125 tax back – and Martin Lewis has explained how
Martin Lewis has discovered that it doesn’t take more than a day working from home to claim an entire year’s worth of tax relief.
The tax break is designed to cover the extra costs you build up doing your job from your home, rather than the office.
But it turns out HMRC is lot less fussy about how much you actually spend than you might think.
“If you’ve been required to work from home even for ONE DAY since 6 April… you can now legitimately claim tax relief for any extra costs for the WHOLE YEAR – worth £60 or £125,” Martin Tweeted.
It was such a good offer, Martin had to double check.
“When we first saw it, we couldn’t quite believe it meant you’d automatically get the whole tax year’s claim, regardless of how long you were at home for,” he explained in a blog post on MoneySavingExpert.com.
