The Lagos State Police Command said it had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man, Anosikwa Patrick, allegedly stabbed by a policeman at a shopping mall in Ajah area of Lagos over the weekend.

This is just as it has given identity of the policeman simply as Inspector Taofeek.

The policeman according spokesman of the command, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, in a statement made available to Vanguard, had been arrested.

According to the statement, “The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Anosikwa Patrick allegedly stabbed by a police officer at the shopping mall on Saturday April 20, 2024.

“The Manager and Chief Security Officer of the mall are already in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation, while the police officer has been identified as Inspr Taofeek, member of visiting 12 PMF squadron to Lagos.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has directed detectives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to ensure a speedy and diligent investigation towards ensuring that the culprit is brought to book.

“Members of the public shall be kept abreast of the investigation as it progresses”.

Meanwhile, when Vanguard visited the bereaved family’s home yesterday, sympathisers were seen consoling members of the family wearing somber expressions.

Efforts to speak with members of the family was in futility, as they insisted they won’t speak to journalists until their lawyer advised otherwise.

They, however told this reporter to come back on Monday.
