The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 98 suspects for kidnap, robbery and murder during the first quarter of this year.

During the same period under review, the police recorded 12 kidnappings, 31 armed robberies, 55 murder cases, including 115 offences for theft.

Parading the suspects over the weekend, in Damaturu, the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Garba disclosed: “A 19-year old, Mohammed Abdullahi kidnapped and killed an 11-year old son of a neighbour in Buni/Yadi community of Gujba local council.”

He said that Abdullahi, who was among the paraded suspects, demanded for a ransom of N600,000 from the victim’s family.

“Abdullahi threatened to kill the abducted son with hard drugs, before burying his body in an undisclosed shallow grave,” said the police boss.

On how the suspect was arrested, Garba said: “When the parents of the victim could not pay the ransom demand, the suspect bought drugs and administered them on the victim to sleep; and the victim later died.

“Abdullahi later buried the corpse in their house while his parents were away and he was later arrested by the police.”
