Two children of the late MKO Abiola, Aliyu and Kassim Abiola, have slammed a N100 million suit against the police in Lagos over their arrest and detention.

The Cable reported that the duo sued the state’s commissioner of police for arresting and detaining them following a robbery incident at their family house.

Recall that some gunmen had on Wednesday, September 2, invaded the residence of the late businessman in Ikeja, Lagos, and reportedly carted away some valuables.

After the incident, the Lagos state police said it had arrested some suspects and had commenced investigations.

Alluding to insider connivance, the police said they arrested persons of interest that would help them unravel the case.

However, the two children who were also allegedly arrested by the police claimed their stepmother, Adebisi Abiola was responsible for the police’ action, having accused them of being involved in the incident.

Both Kassim and Aliyu are being represented by Mike Ozekhome (SAN) in a suit filed at the Lagos state high court.

The senior lawyer asked the court to order the release of Kassim and Aliyu, arguing that their arrest was a violation of their fundamental human right.

Earlier, 360aproko.com had reported that the family of late Moshood Abiola narrated their encounter with the gunmen who invaded their residence on Wednesday, September 2.

A statement released on behalf of the family by Tundun Abiola, one of the children of the late businessman said the police had been informed of the incident and investigation has commenced.

Tundun said the gunmen subjected the family “to extreme emotional torture and harassment”, She adding that the gunmen carted away cash and other valuable items.

The family gave thanks to God and expressed appreciation to those who showed them support across the world.
