Princess Diana’s famous engagement ring, now worn by Kate Middleton, is believed to have cost £28,000 at the time but is now priceless thanks to its history

Princes Charles’s proposal to Princess Diana was far from romantic, and his future wife actually laughed when he popped the question.

Standing in the nursery of Windsor Castle, he asked her to be his royal bride and changed her life forever – despite having only her 13 times.

After she said yes, Charles presented her with a selection of rings by Garrard of Mayfair, the Crown Jeweller at the time.

After looking through the stunning collection, each suitable for the future Queen, she selected a white gold ring with 14 solitaire diamonds surrounding the famous sapphire.

It is believed to have cost £28,000 at the time.

While Diana loved the ring, other members of the royal family reportedly weren’t so impressed.
