Sporting greats such as Gareth Southgate, Seb Coe, Joe Root, George Cohen, Frank Bruno, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Ben Stokes pledge support for nationwide two-minute doorstep silence in support of our We WILL Remember campaign

World Cup winners and Olympic champs are among the heroes teaming up today to back the Mirror’s call for people to take to their doorsteps on Remembrance Sunday.

Sporting greats such as Seb Coe, George Cohen, Frank Bruno, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Ben Stokes are supporting our We WILL Remember campaign.

Covid restrictions will put many remembrance sites, including the Cenotaph, off limits to most people.

So the Mirror is urging households to go to their doorstep to observe the two-minute silence from 11am on Sunday to honour the servicemen and women killed in the world wars and later conflicts.

England football boss Gareth Southgate, 50, described it as a “fitting way for us to collectively remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice during these challenging times”.

Cricket star Stokes – the player of the match as England won the World Cup last year for the first time – said Covid will “not stop us from honouring our brave men and women who fought and died for us”.
