Taylor Swift is sharing the secret to her success. The 34-year-old singer tops Billboard‘s Power 100 list and offers up some wisdom to those who are also recognized.

“The piece of advice I would give to the other executives on this list is that the best ideas are usually ones without industry precedent,” Swift shares. “The biggest crossroads moments of my career came down to sticking to my instincts when my ideas were looked at with skepticism.”

She continues, “When someone says to me, ‘But that has never been done successfully before,’ it fires me up. We have to take strategic risks every day in this industry, but every once in a while, you have to really trust your gut and take a flying leap.”

One such leap for Swift was in 2019 when in an effort to regain control of her master recordings, she began rerecording entire albums. She decided to do this after her first six albums’ master recordings were acquired by then-talent manager Scooter Braun when he bought Swift’s former label, Big Machine Records.

“My re-recordings are my favorite example of this, and I’m extremely grateful to my team and fans for taking that leap with me because it absolutely changed my life,” she tells Billboard.

Swift’s first rerelease, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), was in 2021, followed by Red (Taylor’s Version) that same year, then Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023. She still has her self-titled album, Taylor Swift, and Reputation left to rerecord and release.

Meanwhile, Swift has lots to celebrate! In addition to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, going to the 2024 Super Bowl with his Kansas City Chiefs, Swift is gearing up for the Asian leg of her Eras tour, kicking off next week in Tokyo.
