A 32-year-old teacher, Bruce Mugadhuwi, has been arraigned before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court for writing exams for students.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on October 16, 2023, two students, Shellington Brown and Mirriam Maposa, appeared for a ZIMSEC Mathematics examination at Commercial College. The duo had clandestinely arranged with Mugadhuwi to write the examination on their behalf. Despite their collusion, both candidates participated in the exam under the guise of legitimacy.
Upon completion of the exam, Mugadhuwi executed his plan by smuggling answer sheets he had prepared for Shellington Brown and Mirriam Maposa.
In a brazen act of deception, he replaced their original answer sheets with his prepared ones, all to secure favourable outcomes for the students. For his illicit services, Mugadhuwi received a sum of US$380 from Shellington Brown and US$300 from Mirriam Maposa.
However, the scheme unravelled when ZIMSEC released the exam results in January 2024. To their dismay, Shellington Brown and Mirriam Maposa discovered that their results were withheld due to the irregularities they had discovered.
Mugadhuwi was apprehended on March 22, 2024, after an investigation. After finding him guilty of the offences, the court handed him a fine of US$150 as punishment for his actions.
