Tension As Hoodlums Burn Police Station in Sokoto State.

Hoodlums in Sokoto on Tuesday, April 27 burnt down a police station in Kware local government area of the state. The mob, mostly youths, came to the station shouting and insisting that two suspects arrested for alleged kidnapping should be released. The hoodlums overpowered the operatives guarding the station and burnt it down along with a car owned by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, and two police vans. Governor Aminu Tambuwal is yet to make a statement on the incident. He added that the mob succeeded in killing one of the suspects and wounded the other. The incident was confirmed by the Sokoto state police command through its spokesman, Abubakar Sanusi, an Assistant Supredentent of Police. Sanusi told the News Agency of Nigeria that the suspects were earlier arrested and being investigated for their alleged involvement in kidnapping in the area. The incident comes a day after the Kebbi police command confirmed the killing of nine of its personnel including a DPO by armed bandits in Sakaba local government of the state. Nafi’u Abubakar, the Kebbi state police command spokesman, said the officers were killed during a gun duel with the terrorists on Sunday, April 25. Two local vigilantes and an unknown number of residents also lost their lives during the attack. In a related development, bandits on Sunday night, April 25, invaded Kofar Kuyambana low-cost housing estate in Zaria, Kaduna state, and kidnapped two housewives. On the same day, some students of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi in Benue state were abducted by bandits. The abduction which occurred late in the night has been confirmed by the school authorities.
