Three persons on Friday lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred along Akungba-Ikare Road in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the crash involved a Toyota Camry with registration number, LND 592 GX, and two commercial buses.

According to the eyewitness, the driver of the car suddenly opened the door and hit the motorcycle carrying the victims.

They said the victims lost their balance and fell on the road before another vehicle coming on the other side of the road ran over them.

The victims were said to have died on the spot while the driver of the car immediately fled the scene for fear of being lynched, leaving his car behind.

It was learnt that angry youths in the area set the car ablaze.

The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ezekiel Son’Allah, confirmed the incident and said it was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation by the vehicles involved.

Son’Allah said, “Three persons were killed while the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and route violation. The victims were taken to Aduloju Hospital Akungba by the policemen.”

While cautioning motorists to avoid violating traffic rules, he said speed breakers should be mounted on the road to forestall recurrent crashes.
