Tier 3 lockdown restrictions could be announced for Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees and York today.

Local leaders and government officials have been in ongoing talks over the course of the weekend as coronavirus cases across the region remain high.

On Friday evening, it was announced that Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees had narrowly avoided going into Tier 3.

At the same time, Sheffield was handed a similar reprieve, reports Leeds Live.

Nonetheless, the threat of Covid-19 shows no signs of going away, with the number of cases and infection rates still among the highest in the country in some areas of Yorkshire.

Deaths tolls have risen in recent weeks too.
