Sound Sultan’s death shook Nigerians and tributes have been pouring in as friends, colleagues, and acquaintances bear testimony to the exceptional man he was.

The popular Nigerian musician, whose real name is Olanrewaju Fasasi, died in the early hours of Sunday, July 11.

The 44-year-old singer was buried in New Jersey, U.S., on the same day he died, according to Muslim rites.

He is survived by his wife and three kids.

His wife was inconsolable at his funeral and was filmed laying on his casket.

A statement released by his family said Sound Sultan passed on after a “hard-fought battle” with the Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
