Tragedy struck in Lagos on Saturday when a truck crushed a yet to be identified rider of a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, and two passengers to death, while riding on direction prohibited by law, otherwise called, ‘one-way’ on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

Recall that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recently, arrested some lawless Okada riders, including a soldier while riding against the flow of traffic along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos which elicited mixed reactions from members of the public.

The General Manager of LASTMA Mr.  Olalekan Bakare-Oki, while warning truck drivers to always stop  over speeding however appealed to motorcycle operators to stop plying One-Way including all restricted routes across the State.

Meanwhile, the crash which happened by Barracks Bus-Stop, along Lagos- Badagry Expressway, Lagos, saw operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA,  recovering the lifeless bodies trapped under an empty long ‘Man-Diesel’ truck. 

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed that the deceased were passengers on a motorcycle riding on ‘One-way’.

According to Adebayo, “While these two motorcycle passengers died instantly, the rider later died at a hospital around Satellite Town.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a truck driver while on a top speed lost control as a result of a rear busted tyre and rammed into a motorcycle plying one-way by Barracks Bus-Stop inward Iyana-Iba along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

“While the truck driver ran away after the accident, Policemen from ‘Onireke’ Police Division’ took away the recovered two (2) dead bodies.”

The vehicle and the motorcycle were later evacuated off the road to pave way for an unhindered free vehicular movement around the expressway.
