NHS England reported 137 more deaths, Wales 16, Scotland six and Northern Ireland confirmed a further eight people had died after testing positive for coronavirus.

The UK’s coronavirus hospital death toll has today risen by 167.

It is the largest increase on a Sunday since 77 deaths were announced on June 7.

NHS England said that a further 137 patients who tested positive for coronavirus died.

Scotland confirmed six more people had died after testing positive for coronavirus. It means 2,849 people have now died from the disease.

Another 1,148 new cases of Covid-19 were also recorded in Scotland, taking the overall number of infections there to 65,061.

Wales reported 16 new fatalities, taking the total number of deaths there to 1,888.
