The UK’s Covid-19 death toll increased by 90 in England, where lockdown restrictions are being tightened, five in Wales and two in Northern Ireland while there were seven new deaths in Scotland

The UK’s coronavirus death toll has increased by 104, the biggest rise since early June.

By way of comparison there were 63 Covid-19 deaths in clinical settings last Tuesday.

A further seven people deaths in Scotland were added to the grim total, 90 in England, two in Northern Ireland and five in Wales.

That means 35,425 people have now lost their lives to Covid-19 in UK hospitals.

The highest increase on a Tuesday was 854 on April 7, when the UK was in the initial peak of its outbreak.

The last time the figure was as high on a Tuesday was on June 10, when 109 people died of Covid-19 in hospitals.
