Ali Sakallioglu, who spent 222 days in hospital after having coronavirus, reached out to Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway and her husband Derek Draper, who is still in a semi-conscious state

A Good Morning Britain guest said to be Britain’s longest-suffering coronavirus patient has offered hope to Kate Garraway.

Taxi driver Ali Sakallioglu was left seriously ill after contracting Covid-19, suffering a heart attack and spending 222 days in hospital.

His family were warned to prepare for the worst on three occasions, with him left in a coma on a ventilator as the virus attacked his body.

He is now home and recovering, feeling glad to be alive.

Piers Morgan asked the GMB guest about his life after his stint in hospital, before mentioning Kate and her husband Derek Draper.

Derek remains in hospital after he too was left seriously ill in March with the virus.

Kate has provided fans with updates on his condition regularly, revealing last week was “tough”.
