Woodies DIY store in Ireland has been labelled “the winner of the 2020 Christmas TV adverts” after sharing a video on social media staring Mrs Higgins and her dog Kevin

Christmas adverts have now become one of the most eagerly-anticipated traditions in the lead up to December.

Months of planning and significant budgets go into the releases for huge chains like John Lewis, Aldi and McDonald’s as they compete to become the unofficial Christmas number one.

But fans think it’s a humble DIY shop that has produced the winning idea in 2020 after it released its advert on social media this weekend.

Woodie’s, a DIY supplies and accessories store based in Ireland, posted the video to its modest following on Twitter and Facebook before it racked up thousands of shares with many viewers branding it “my favourite so far”.

The brilliant advert stars Mrs Higgins and her dog Kevin

It shows Mrs Higgins leaving her home and dragging a broken garden gate across the concrete to close it behind her as a group of boys hang out on a wall opposite.

As time passes, Mrs Higgins continues to struggle with the gate until one day she returns home in the snow with her dog Kevin to find someone has fixed it for her in a random act of kindness.
