Talk about a perfect recovery!

Ed Sheeran, 32, took the stage in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday, marking the beginning of his much-anticipated +–=÷× Tour, creatively pronounced as “Mathematics.” While the crowd enjoyed a smooth start to the show, Sheeran nearly had a major stumble just before the performance.

In a video shared on Instagram, Sheeran was captured racing up the steps at the Kyocera Dome when he tripped and fell to his knees, guitar in hand. However, displaying his signature charm and composure, Sheeran quickly recovered, strumming the guitar for the delighted audience. He even shot a cheeky smile at the cameraman under the stage who had managed to capture the near-tumble.

“Styled it out,” Sheeran captioned the video.

Opening act Calum Scott, who had a high view of the stadium, admitted being unaware of Sheeran’s fall, commenting, “I was at the back of the stadium with the highest view and I didn’t see it, so well styled mate 😂👏🏻.”

While the Osaka show marked Sheeran’s first performance in Japan for 2024, he has already taken the stage three times since the year began. The tour kicked off in Bahrain on Jan. 15, followed by two shows in Dubai on Jan. 19 and 20. After wrapping up two nights in Osaka, Sheeran will conclude his Japan run at the Tokyo Dome on Jan. 31.

The GRAMMY winner is set to continue his tour through Asia until March, making stops in Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, before concluding the leg in Mumbai on March 16.

Over the summer, Sheeran plans to bring his record-breaking show to Europe, with stops in Italy, Germany, Spain, and across Eastern Europe.

The Mathematics Tour has been monumental for Sheeran, with a historic moment occurring at MetLife Stadium in June 2023. His two shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey, grossed an astounding $18 million, breaking the stadium’s attendance record with 173,390 fans present. Sheeran celebrated the achievement on Instagram, expressing gratitude and reminiscing about his journey from playing small venues to breaking records in iconic stadiums.
