Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Saturday, September 12 reassured that his government would continue to serve the people of Edo state and pursue more programmes and projects to put smiles on their faces.

Obaseki gave the assurance while speaking during a one-day prayer and fasting programme for peaceful election in the state, organised by the Light of Peace for Africa Foundation with support from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Edo state chapter.

The governor said: “God made me governor to do things differently for the benefit of the people. I am in government to wipe away the tears from the eyes of Edo people.

“God heard the cries of pensioners, victims of human trafficking and market women, among others who were harassed daily and sent me to wipe away their tears.”

Expressing confidence ahead of next Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state, Obaseki said: “I am not afraid of next Saturday’s election as we are certain of victory. Come out en masse to cast your votes for the PDP to ensure we finish what we have started.”

Reassuring that his administration will do more for the people when reelected, the governor noted: “In every ward we went during our ward-to-ward campaign, the people wanted improved electricity supply and roads. We have constructed several roads in the state and will build more roads in the second term.”

Obaseki said his administration has been able to fix the educational sector and ensured the pupils in the state get quality education.

Governor Obaseki had earlier urged the electorate in the state not to sell their votes but turn out en masse on Saturday, September 19, to exercise their franchise for the right candidate who can take the state forward.

Obaseki who gave the charge at a meeting with party faithful in Ward 4, Benin city, expressed confidence that he will win the forthcoming election and retain his seat.

He said: “They are planning to buy votes here and in other wards; they want to induce you people with the sum of N10, 000 per voter. You know what to do; collect the money and still vote for the PDP. Collect their money and at the end, we will rejoice over them.”

360aproko.com had reported that Governor Obaseki on Tuesday, September 8 defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu by over 17 points (Obaseki 57.73%; Ize-Iyamu 40.07%), in an online poll conducted by Channels Television in partnership with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room.

The poll, according to the organisers, was put together to enable the general public to select their preferred gubernatorial candidates who are expected to feature in the station’s forthcoming debate programme.

Participants of the online poll were asked to make their choice from among the 14 candidates listed. Other notable candidates in the list include Jones Osagiobare of the Young Peoples Party and Lucky Osagie of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
